Montgomery Trace Ride

The Ride: a 367 mile ride through the East Texas countryside covering FM 149, the Montgomery Trace. The ride included stops in the historic communities of Navasota, Anderson, Plantersville, Montgomery, Brenham, Chappell Hill and Burton. Memorable stops included visits to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville, the Anderson County Courthouse, the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham and the burial site of the famous Texas Ranger, Leander McNelly in Burton.

Day 1: From Austin to Navasota; Anderson; Montgomery Trace Loop; Brenham;
263 mi, 7 ½ - 8 hrs
From Austin take Hwy 290 East to Brenham

Right on Hwy 6 toward Navasota

Navasota (Start of Montgomery Trace Loop)
Get on Hwy 6-Br and drive northwest
Turn right onto Hwy 3090 northwest  
Turn right onto Hwy 149 
POI: Odd Fellows Cemetery (Gravesite of Benjamin Goodrich; signer of Texas Declaration
of Independence)
Turn right onto Hwy 90
Turn left onto Buffington Ln  
Turn right onto Hwy 429-Loop S        
POI: Grimes County Courthouse

Get on Hwy 429-Loop and drive south
Turn left onto Hwy 2819; drive east                
Turn right onto Hwy 1486                  
Turn left onto Hwy 1774        
Turn right onto 1488 (Magnolia Pky)
Backtrack north on Magnolia Pky       
Turn left onto Hwy 149          
Continue on 149 North
Turn right onto Hwy 2562
Turn left onto Hwy 30 West

Turn left onto Hwy 508-Loop
Get on Hwy 6-Br and drive northwest
Turn left onto Hwy 105          
Left on N Horton; right on 290

Dinner: Capitol Grill in downtown Brenham     
Day 2: Brenham; Burton; Chappell Hill; 104 mi., 5 - 6 hrs visiting historic sites in  Brenham,
Chappell Hill and Burton; Return to Austin
